Title: Honest Trees (2018)

Artist: Amy Redmond

Size: 3 x 6.25 inches

This print was created in celebration of the new year, inspired by a phrase from an e.e. cummings poem that perfectly captured the outlook I wanted to have and share for 2018.

It was designed and letterpress printed from handset metal type: Spartan for the text, and Huxley Vertical for the trees. It was printed with a Colt’s Armory platen press on 5 different types of papers (4 on cover stock, 1 on chipboard), in an effort to make a dent in the increasingly growing stack of offcuts gathering in my studio.

Amada Press is the private letterpress studio of Seattle visual artist and designer Amy Redmond. The main focus of her work is on handset typography using metal and wood type. Amy offers letterpress classes for beginning and advanced students through Partners in Print and teaches typography at the School of Visual Concepts. Her professional design work can be viewed on AmyRedmond.com.
