The students spent most of the school year refining their work, preparing it for publication in the Spring.

I was recruited, as an extension of my week-long artist residency at the school, to design and letterpress print the cover. The 2004 edition was the third in a series of 3 anthologies that I designed, and marks the tenth anniversary of this book project.

M.r Pippin’s 2004 5th grade classes inspired the idea of a film noir/pulp cover theme, and all credits are treated in a pseudo-film credit style with students “starring for the first time on the big screen” in this production that was “filmed on location at Seattle Country Day School.”

The cover was designed digitally and made into magnesium printing plates, which I then letterpress printed in an edition of 175 on a Vandercook SP-15 press. Mr. Pippin then had the covers bound to the interior book block, which he typeset himself. The books were presented to the students during their last week of school.

With over 18 years of experience in agency and studio settings, Amy Redmond is a visual designer who thrives on variety, creating print and interactive work for corporate and non-profit clients.
