Book Title<\/strong>: The 2003 Anthology of Short Fiction<\/em><\/p>\n Client\/Publisher<\/strong>: Seattle Country Day School \/ M2 Press (2003)<\/p>\n Role<\/strong>: Design, typesetting, copywriting<\/p>\n Author<\/strong>: Various young adults<\/p>\n Size<\/strong>: 5.5 x 8 inches, perfect bound<\/p>\n Each year, during his tenure at Seattle Country Day School, English teacher Dave Pippin rallied his 5th-grade students to create an anthology of short fiction. The students spent most of the school year refining their work, preparing it for publication in the Spring.<\/p>\n I was recruited, as an extension of my week-long artist residency at the school, to design and letterpress print the cover. The 2003 edition was the second in a series of 3 anthologies that I designed & printed.<\/p>\n Inspiration came one Saturday morning from a cereal box, and soon the cover became an ad bragging of the healthy nutrients that can be had from a good daily dose of fiction. Student names are listed as the ingredients, and the Nutrition Facts on the back inform the reader of how much of their daily fiction requirement this book fulfills.<\/p>\n The cover was designed digitally and made into magnesium printing plates, which I then letterpress printed in an edition of 200 on a Vandercook SP-15 press. Mr. Pippin then had the covers bound to the interior book block, which he\u00a0typeset himself.\u00a0The books were presented to the students during their last week of school.<\/p>\n With over 18 years of experience in agency and studio settings,\u00a0Amy Redmond<\/a>\u00a0is a visual designer who thrives on variety, creating print and interactive work for corporate and non-profit clients. To keep her creativity refreshed, Amy balances digital design with time in her letterpress studio (Amada Press)<\/a>\u00a0in Seattle.
