The students spent most of the school year refining their work, preparing it for publication in the Spring.<\/p>\n<p>I was recruited, as an extension of my week-long artist residency at the school, to design and letterpress print the cover. The 2002 edition was the first in a series of 3 anthologies that I designed and printed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-737 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/amyredmond.com\/portfolio\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/scds2k2b.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"327\" height=\"532\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An exuberant brainstorming session with the students\u00a0(&#8220;Monkeys in sunglasses!&#8221; I was told) inspired the cover&#8217;s art and text, which I designed digitally and then had made into magnesium printing plates.\u00a0I then letterpress printed it in an edition of 180 on a Vandercook 4 press, which Mr. Pippin then had bound to the interior book block, which he\u00a0typeset himself.\u00a0The books were presented to the students during their last week of school.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>With over 18 years of experience in agency and studio settings,\u00a0<a title=\"Amy Redmond (Art Direction\/Design\/Letterpress)\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161019181801\/http:\/\/www.amyredmond.com\/\">Amy Redmond<\/a>\u00a0is a visual designer who thrives on variety, creating print and interactive work for corporate and non-profit clients. To keep her creativity refreshed, Amy balances digital design with time in her letterpress studio (<a title=\"Amada Press\" href=\"http:\/\/amadapress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amada Press)<\/a>\u00a0in Seattle.
