Project<\/strong>: Goalkeepers Report (2020)<\/p>\n Client<\/strong>: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation<\/p>\n Role<\/strong>: Senior Art Director<\/p>\n Agency<\/strong>: Wunderman Thompson (Seattle)<\/p>\n In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development to achieve a better world by 2030. Started by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Goalkeepers<\/a> is a catalyst for action toward these goals\u2014bringing together leaders from around the world to accelerate progress toward ending poverty and fighting inequality.<\/p>\n The Goalkeepers Report is an annual look at the world’s collective progress. The 2020 Report examines the wide-ranging impacts of Covid-19, and what we must do to end it.<\/p>\n Produced in 8 different languages (including Arabic, which reads right-to-left), this project was a testament to how, with proper strategic planning, a well-crafted design system can be deployed to produce a multitude of work with a nimble team, accuracy, and minimal churn.<\/p>\n Although many accessed the Report as a downloadable PDF, the source files were designed to meet high-resolution CMYK print standards, so that each BMGF regional office \u2014 if health safety precautions allowed \u2014 could have them professionally printed and bound.<\/p>\n Pictured below: the concluding statement from Bill & Melinda Gates’ essay, in English (top), German (middle), and Arabic (bottom). I provided character counts to the editor, to ensure all translations fit in the alloted space.<\/em><\/p>\n Another success was our close collaboration with the vendor that produced the data charts. We used the downtime we had while waiting on data to solidify chart sizes, typographic styles, and press-friendly color palettes \u2014 so that when final charts came in days before going to press, there were no surprises. To keep her creativity refreshed, Amy balances digital design with time in her letterpress studio (Amada Press<\/a>) in Seattle.
