To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alaska's statehoood, Alaska Airlines is sponsoring a contest called "Paint the Plane", open to all Alaskan students in grades K–12. Students submit their artwork based on the theme "Spirit of Alaska", and the grand prize winner gets their design painted on an Alaska Airlines 737 jet (as well as a trip to Disneyland).

With such a wide age range in target audience, it was challenging to design a site that is playful and informative, without alienating the teenage audience. The logo was illustrated by hand.
